About Us - Our Beginning
After seeing so many in need in the community, a group of community and business leaders came together to form an organization addressing the homelessness and hunger in the community, forming Hazleton Community Resource Center.
HCRC has grown from providing basic needs for families in crisis, to offering extensive programs that facilitate the safety, stability, and self-sufficiency of low-income and episodically homeless households, including domestic violence victims and much more.
When someone chooses to come to HCRC for help, they’re experiencing what could possibly be one of their worst days.
Our front-line staff and volunteers welcome every person with compassion, but our current campus doesn’t welcome them into a healing-centered environment with the same warmth and acceptance. No one should have to wait for food out in public view or meet with their counselor in bustling surroundings.
Our capital campaign is focused on how we can turn that worst day into the start of a future filled with hope and possibility.
“Self-sufficiency is the ability to maintain one's self and relates to women and men being agents for themselves. Independence and self-sufficiency are critical keys to an stable life and temporal growth..”
— Robert, President of HCRC
